Connor Lawlor is a 21-year-old singer-songwriter from North Yorkshire with huge ambitions and dreams. His biggest influences are modern day artists such as Ed Sheeran, Ben Howard, James Bay and Paolo Nutini. He also takes inspiration when writing songs from artists like Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers and Gary Lightbody.

Connor grew up in a small seaside town on the east coast. His love for music began when his father took him to see his first concert at age 7. “We went to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers on their By The Way tour. I saw John Frusciante playing on stage and I just instantly fell in love with the idea. I just remember thinking ‘That looks like the coolest job in the world’ and so that Christmas my Dad bought me my first guitar”.

Since then, Connor’s passion for music has continued to grow. He began playing on an electric guitar and didn’t actually start singing until he was 12-years-old. Around this time he decided his style of playing would better suit an acoustic guitar. He began writing songs and performing live at the age of 14 and has continued to grow exponentially ever since. Connor has dedicated his life to making music and his dedication and determination is paying off. He went to a performing arts college to study and he now makes his living travelling around the UK and performing. He has played on stage with some huge names over the past few years (artists such as Jessie J, Mcfly and Olly Murs) and still continues to grow as an artist. “I have to thank my parents for pushing me to do what I really wanted to do. I feel in todays society there’s a lot of pressure to go and get a ‘well paying and stable job’, but that just wasn’t me. I had a lot of people around me telling me to go to college and become a chef, or an engineer, or a teacher, but in the end taking a few years out to go and study my real passion was the best thing that I could have ever done, and I encourage everybody to do the same thing. Follow your dreams and never give up on them. I once heard Ed Sheeran say “If I have one bit of advice for somebody trying to make it, it would be to not have a Plan B, it only distracts you from Plan A”.

Connor is working his way up through the industry and making lots of contacts on the way. He hopes that with his natural talent, relentless hard work and a little good luck he will one day be as accomplished as some of his biggest influences in the industry.

“I want people to hear my music and instantly connect with it. I write meaningful lyrics about things that everyone has been through and feelings that everyone has felt so that people naturally feel a connection with it. I see myself as a very spiritual person and I feel my biggest goal is to spread that awareness through my music. I want people to see that there is so much more to life than meets the eye, and hopefully my music can help some people see that. I want to share my experience of love, hate, sunshine, thunderstorms and everything in between through my music. If I can go through life making people smile with a guitar and a voice then I’ve done my job. It’ll be a life very well lived”.
